Frequent assessment of student progress is essential to measuring
our success as a school system. The current testing program spans
Grades K-12.
This year, we have initiated testing in grades K and 1 with DIBELS
(Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills). This is a test
of how well students are acquiring phonemic awareness and phonics
skills that are necessary for reading proficiency. Kindergarten
students will be tested in January and May. First Grade students
will be tested in September, January, and May.
Students in Grade 2 will be tested in the fall and spring using
a standardized assessment called, Rigby Reads. This is a test of
Reading Comprehension. This test is being piloted this year in Grades
2 and Grade 6 to measure student growth in Reading during the year.
MCAS begins in Grade 3 with the Reading test and continues through
Grade 12 with a variety of tests in English language arts, mathematics,
science, and history & social science.
SAT’s and ACT’s are available for High School students
preparing to apply for colleges and universities.
