Special Education

Welcome to the Special Education and Pupil Services webpage. On behalf of the Beverly Public Schools, I would like to invite you to take this opportunity to learn about our staff, programs, and related services. Our central office is located at the Memorial Building, 502 Cabot Street, Beverly, MA.

We pride ourselves on providing a continuum of services that supports students throughout their academic career. Our E-Child program enables teachers and specialists to document and provide appropriate interventions for all students who experience challenges with their studies. Each school has a child study TEAM that meets regularly to address concerns that may arise involving a child’s progress. These teams are made up of General Education and Special Education Teachers, Counselors, Rehab Therapists, Nurses, and Reading Specialists. Each school has support paraprofessional staff to assist in providing the most appropriate services for all students.

Our Special Education department embraces a philosophy of inclusion in the least restrictive environment (LRE) and works diligently to provide all students with a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). Special Education services are available to all students preschool through graduation and young adults ages 18-22 who are determined to be eligible through the evaluation process. Federal guidelines for students’ eligibility and services are outlined by IDEA 2004 (Individual with Disabilities Act). When a child is determined to be eligible the school system, in partnership with the parent, develops an Individual Education Program. The definition of inclusion is treated independently for each child and services are determined on an individual basis through the IEP process. We are especially proud of the variety of programs and support services that we have available to ensure that students succeed within our schools.
