Welcome to the Transportation Department website!

Our department is complete with 36 busses, 7 school vans, 30 CDL bus drivers, 6 van drivers and 14 bus monitors. The director, secretary and dispatcher maintain the department Monday-Friday from 8:00 to 4:00PM and would be glad to assist you in any way regarding school bus transportation.

We provide transportation to the students of Beverly who attend our public schools as well as those who attend parochial schools in Beverly. Students are bussed daily to and from their respective schools. Transportation is provided for students who participate in school field trips, athletic/music programs, or any other school based activity that requires bussing. Our goal is to provide transportation to all students in a safe and timely manner.

Regular Bus Transportation
Application is required to register a student to ride a regular bus to and from their school daily. A form should be completed for each child and returned with any required bus fee to the Transportation Department. The Beverly Public Schools require all students in grades 7-12 and Full-Day Kindergarteners to provide their own transportation or to pay a transportation fee. The fee is $315 per student and capped at $630 per family. One way ridership is allowed at $157.50 per student. A $5 fee is assessed to replace a bus pass. In case of financial hardship, scholarship assistance for those families who are eligible may be provided.

The regular bus routes for the current school year are provided through this website. Please note that routes may change from school year to school year. If you do not see a bus stop for your child, please call the transportation office for further information.

Special Education Transportation
An application must be completed for your child to ride the Special Education bus to his/her school. If the school district does not have a bus route for your child’s program, a transportation vendor outside the Beverly Public Schools will be assigned. Transportation is provided only when an approved IEP has been obtained through the Special Education Department, indicating that transportation is requested. An additional form for any transportation changes is also attached. These forms are available also in the Special Education Department located at the Memorial Building.

Bus Discipline Procedures
Students with discipline problems will be given a bus discipline report. A copy of the report is mailed home to the student's parents to be signed and returned to the Transportation Dept. A copy of the report is sent to the principal of the school that the student is attending. Violations will be reviewed, as necessary, and action taken may include suspension of bus privileges, where appropriate.

Bus Riding Privileges
Terms and Conditions for bus riding privileges are as follows:

  1. A bus pass may not be used by anyone other than the individual for whom the pass was purchased.
  2. The bus pass will be shown upon boarding the bus.
  3. The bus will be boarded in an orderly manner.
  4. While riding on the bus, students are prohibited from moving about, throwing objects, or extending any part of their bodies outside of the bus, which could distract the driver from the safe operation of the vehicle.
  5. Students are not permitted to open doors or windows without permission of the bus driver. Students are not to touch emergency exits, unless instructed to.
  6. Smoking or lighting anything on the bus is prohibited by State law, this also refers to drugs and alcohol.
  7. Students shall not change buses or bus stops without prior approval of the Transportation Dept.

General Laws
MGL Chap 71, S8 mandates free public transportation for those students who live more than two miles from the school which they are entitled to attend for grades ½ DAY KINDERGARTEN TO GRADE 6 ONLY. This eliminates any requirement to provide transportation for students in grades 7-12 regardless of the distance between residence and school.
