Mission
Statement
Beverly High School is a leader in providing a broad and balanced
educational experience. Among those experiences is the athletic program.
Humanics is the guiding principle for the Beverly Public Schools Athletic
Program. Humanics is the philosophy of educating an individual's emotional,
intellectual and physical aspects, thus educating the whole person.
Humanics is based on the understanding that all people regardless
of ethnicity, color, creed, religion, gender, sexual orientation,
disability or upbringing has extraordinary potential. To encourage
that potential, Beverly High School has developed an academic program,
bolstered by, among other co-curricular activities, a tradition
of sport (athletics) as both physical activity and an intellectual
discipline. Through humanics and Beverly High School's Athletic
Program, student-athletes are prepared to think critically and to
acknowledge their relation to the larger society.
Beverly High School's athletic tradition is firmly rooted in the
concept that sports are educational, offering a co-curricular opportunity
for the development of the students' whole being, enabling them
to be leaders in service to humanity. The athletic program is an
integrated part of the high school and school system's total curriculum.
Here athletics interact with academics; they are co-curricular,
not extra-curricular. Unlike at other high schools, coaches at Beverly
High School do more than coach. As faculty members, they also teach
in the classroom and their "classrooms" extend to the
playing field. In their role as teacher-coaches, they work with
student-athletes to help develop them to their fullest potential.
At Beverly High School, in particular, athletics are truly a unique
educational experience. Players on the field are more than just
players; they are deeply involved in an educational experience that
stresses learning life long lessons from sport, becoming leaders,
and being role models.
