Mission Statement
The Hannah Elementary School strives to meet the individual needs of its students by encouraging them to become confident, life-long learners. The students, staff, and families work collaboratively to promote academic excellence by using programs and curricula that are current and research- based. Teachers and support staff provide opportunities to meet students’ diverse needs and abilities as measured by district, state, and national standards.
The Hannah community is committed to meeting the needs of the whole child. By fostering emotional, social, physical and intellectual growth we will create an atmosphere of respect for each member of our school.
Welcome!
Welcome to the Hannah School website! The Hannah School is proud to announce its accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). This accreditation is the result of a two and a half year process in which the professional staff at Hannah completed a self-study and provided the NEASC Visiting Committee with documentation of high standards and high quality instructional practices.
Our school is named after the USS Hannah, the first commissioned ship in George Washington’s Navy in 1775. We presently have approximately 330 students attending Kindergarten through grade five in a newly renovated facility, which includes a Media Center and Computer Lab, outfitted with more than twenty-five computers, as well as computers in each classroom. In addition, we have devoted art, music, science, guidance, reading, occupational therapy, physical therapy, resource and conference rooms.
During the past two years we have established concerted efforts to focus on student achievement. Specifically, some of the facets that lead to this are:
- Daily, dedicated language arts 90-minute period for all students;
- Enrichment activities in reading and math for all students;
- An emphasis on higher order thinking skills, including activities such as, analysis of topics/questions, reflection on text passages, evaluation of information, and prediction of events;
- A concentration on writing across the curriculum;
- Preparation for middle school experiences, including long-term self-directed multi-curricular projects;
- An inclusionary and resource room combination model for special education students;
- An integration of technology into the content areas, using such software as, Inspiration, Kid Pix, Power Point and Hyperstudio for all research projects;
- An active and supportive parent organization who provides cultural productions for the students;
- A focus on assistive technology for designated students;
- Title One math support in and out of the classroom; and
- Reading support in and out of the classroom.
Administration, teachers and parents work collaboratively to provide rich, worthwhile experiences for all students. We all work together to make student success happen. Our mission at the Hannah School is to produce well-rounded students who have enriching experiences academically, culturally, and socially. We want to produce enthusiastic learners, who will go on to succeed in life. Please read our Mission Statement, which is on this site.
