Welcome

Welcome to the Briscoe Middle School Website. Our school is located at 7 Sohier Road, where approximately 600 students attend school. Our building was constructed in 1923 as Beverly High School and functioned in that capacity until 1965, when the facility began housing Briscoe Junior High School and, eventually, Briscoe Middle School. Our school building is rich in tradition and beautiful architecture, unmatched by recent construction. Particularly beautiful are the grand entrance and auditorium, which was modeled after Boston Symphony Hall.

Our school wide focus is to build a strong, challenging, academic program enhanced by interdisciplinary-learning. Students are expected to demonstrate high levels of achievement and be able to maximize their many strengths and talents during their middle years. We want our students to have respect for themselves and others and grow as active members of our school and larger community.

Our staff is enthusiastic, professional, and dedicated. Teachers challenge and motivate students, primarily through the implementation of differentiated instruction in our classrooms. Lessons are designed to take advantage and address the learning styles and needs of all students.

At each grade level we are divided into two teams (Blue and Gold) for academic subjects. In addition, we offer French, German, and Spanish as world languages, as well as an expressive arts program that includes Music, Health, Computers, Wellness, Physical Education, Writing, Technology and Art. Band and chorus programs are present at each level. Our library-media center is fully automated and contains twelve computers with Internet access for student use.

Briscoe is proud to offer the following activities and programs:

  • A Comprehensive guidance program, which includes adjustment counseling, group counseling, parent conferences, and high school transition.

  • An Intergenerational Book Club, in which students and community elders read common books and meet over snacks to share opinions and ideas about their readings.

  • Co-ed Intra-mural sports, which offers flag football, basketball, and floor hockey.

  • School Scrabble Club

  • Field trips and overnight trips to Nature’s Classroom and Mt. Washington N.H.

  • "Homeward Bound" communication to parents (Weekly e-mail to inform parents of school and district events)

  • A Peer Mediation program, which is designed to encourage students to communicate and mediate contracts to resolve differences with their peers.

  • Hero Development (A program to combat bullying and encourage character development)

  • Project Wisdom (A nationally recognized program to inspire character, build self esteem and community)

  • In addition, our PTO provides enrichment programs helps to fund field trips, overnight trips, and supplement classroom supplies for teachers.
