4/18 Community Update

Dear Members of the Beverly Public Schools Community,

As you may have heard, last night the Beverly School Committee voted to select Dr. Peter Cushing as the next Superintendent of the Beverly Public Schools, effective July 1, 2025, pending contract negotiations.

Dr. Cushing was selected following a thorough, months-long search process which included significant input from school committee members, administrators, educators, students, family members, and Beverly residents.

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Cushing to the Beverly Public Schools. Throughout the search process, Dr. Cushing demonstrated that he will carry forward our district's commitment to student achievement and to creating welcoming and inclusive learning environments for all. I would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to all of the candidates who gave their time and energy to this process. We wish them the best in their future endeavors.

Dr. Cushing comes to Beverly from the Medford Public School District where he has been the Assistant Superintendent of Enrichment and Innovation since 2019. Prior to his time in Medford, Dr. Cushing was the principal at the Bartlett High School in Webster from 2018 to 2019, principal of Narragansett Middle School in Templeton from 2011 to 2018 and vice principal of Narragansett Regional High School from 2008 to 2011. The School Committee is confident that Dr. Cushing’s wealth of experience will bring a valued perspective to the challenges and opportunities facing our students and our educators.

A North Shore native born and raised in Lynn, Dr. Cushing received a Bachelor's Degree from St. Anselm College before moving on to receive a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Doctorate in Education from Boston College. Dr. Cushing currently resides in Ipswich with his wife and three children.

The School Committee will continue to provide updates as we move forward in welcoming Dr. Cushing to our district. We understand the importance of a smooth transition and will be sharing details about upcoming events and opportunities to meet Dr. Cushing. We are excited to begin this new chapter and believe that Dr. Cushing's leadership will be instrumental in continuing to shape the future of our schools.

I would like to once again express the School Committee’s appreciation to all the individuals who participated in the Superintendent search process. Your input, feedback, and dedication to finding the best candidate for our district were invaluable. We are confident that Dr. Cushing is the right person to lead our district forward, and we are excited to see all that we will accomplish together.

Thank you,

Rachael O. Abell
