School Committee
The Beverly School Committee, as a representative body, seeks to understand, plan for, and address the educational requirements of the students it serves. It consists of seven (7) members, six (6) of whom shall be nominated and elected by the voters of each ward. The Mayor serves as the seventh member. Members of the School Committee hold office for a period of two (2) years.
Monthly meetings of the Beverly School Committee are typically held on the second Wednesday of the month and the School Committee of the Whole (COTW) meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of the month. These meetings start at 7:30 PM in the Beverly Middle School Library and are regularly streamed and broadcast on BevCam.
Two (2) Standing Committees - Curriculum, Instruction, and Student Life (CISL) and Finance and Facilities (F&F) - exist to further the work of the School Committee by focusing their agenda on seeking to understand current programs and any changes recommended by the administration. These meetings are held on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 6:15 PM, prior to the Beverly School Committee and Committee of the Whole Meetings respectively.
Two (2) other subcommittees - Policy Subcommittee and the Negotiations Subcommittee - meet on an as-needed basis. The Chair of the School Committee, along with the Superintendent, also create ad hoc subcommittees for various purposes, as required. And designated members of the School Committee participate on the City Council's Financial Forecasting subcommittee.
In addition to being posted on the District website, notifications of all meetings are posted in the City Clerk's Office at the Beverly City Hall. On occasion, meeting times and dates may vary, and interested citizens should be sure to check the current meeting schedule, in the box on the right.
