Educator Evaluation

On June 28, 2011, the Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) adopted new regulations to guide the evaluation of all educators serving in positions requiring a license-teachers, principals, superintendents, and other administrators. The regulations are designed first and foremost to promote leaders' and teachers' growth and development. They place student learning at the center of the process using multiple measures of student learning. By 2013-2014, every district in the Commonwealth will be phasing in evaluation processes and procedures.

When the district negotiated the new teacher contract last year (2012), the teachers' union and the school committee agreed to bargain the details of the new educator evaluation sytem as part of the the new contract. Because Beverly is a Race To The Top district, we were required to implement the new educator evaluation system beginning with the 2012-2013 school year.

This section of the website is designed to post the important elements of the negotiated system and will serve as a resource for our teaching and administrative staff. Links to contract language are posted in left panel of this page. As we continue to work to implement the program, we will post new documents.

The full overview of the educator evaluation system can be found on the DESE website at: www.doe.mass.edu/edval.
