2/13 Community Update

February 13, 2025

Dear Members of the Beverly Public Schools Community,

As we get plans in place for reviewing qualified candidates for the new Superintendent, I want to share my sincere thanks to the many people who volunteered their time to sit on the screening committee. Giving up what little free time you have is no small task, and I am inspired by how many of you are eager to contribute to this important effort.

While we wish all interested individuals could join, we must ensure equitable representation on the screening committee so that every stakeholder group has a voice and a seat at the table. We will reach out to the volunteers whose schedules align with the dates selected by the School Committee.

Since this process began, the School Committee expressed a desire for as much community involvement as possible. Even if you are not on the screening committee, your feedback is equally important to us and we want to hear from you. The Massachusetts Association of School Committees (MASC), the organization chosen by the School Committee to assist us with the search, created a survey where Beverly residents can share the qualities, skills, and expertise you expect from our new Superintendent. MASC will process all responses and draft a candidate profile which will help the screening committee and the School Committee identify the most qualified candidates.

This stakeholder survey will be available until February 20 and we look forward to discussing the themes at our February 26 School Committee meeting.

We continue to encourage residents to engage when possible throughout this process and encourage all members of the community to attend our upcoming School Committee Meetings.

Thank you again for your dedication to the future of our schools.

Sincerely,

Rachael Abell
