3/27 Community Update
Dear Beverly Public Schools Community,
I am writing to provide an update on the Superintendent search process.
Earlier this week, after a lengthy process of reviewing, screening and interviewing many qualified applicants, the Screening Committee brought forward three recommended finalists in accordance with the parameters agreed to and voted on by the School Committee. One of the three candidates removed their name from consideration Tuesday, leaving us with only two finalists, one fewer than was required by the School Committee as part of its approved process to ensure they had a full range of choices.
Last night, after careful consideration, the School Committee voted to request that the Screening Committee reconvene and provide the School Committee with at least one additional finalist. In the interest of maintaining a fair process, we will release the names of all three finalists only after the School Committee votes to move forward with interviews.
Ultimately, this decision is about honoring commitments made to the people of Beverly at the start of this process to ensure that three qualified candidates made it to the final round. We owe it to our students, educators and the entire City of Beverly to hire the best possible superintendent who will carry on the strong work of Superintendent Suzanne Charochak and who is committed to our mission, vision, and values for Beverly Schools now and into the future.
This will not affect the timeline posted on beverlyschools.org. The School Committee intends to appoint a new Superintendent on April 17.
We thank you for your patience as we continue this critical work.
Sincerely,
Rachael O. Abell
